Binge-Worthy Shows For A Night In

This is my favorite episode!

Streaming services are putting out more great, binge-worthy TV shows than we can keep up with. That’s why we’re thankful for lists like this one that lists 15 ‘must watch’ binge-worthy shows. While one of our favorites — Ted Lasso — got ignored on that list (shameful!), there are still a great number of shows that we can recommend as you curl up for a nice, relaxing night in front of the tube.

Murders on the Brain

Don’t let the semi-creepy names of these two shows fool you. Only Murders in the Building stars two of the greatest comedy legends of Hollywood, Steve Martin and Martin Short, who show off their chemistry with one another and with songstress Selena Gomez as the three principal members of the cast. In many ways, OMIB is both a love letter to the genre of true-crime podcasts that have sprung up like wildflowers after a Spring rain, and a sweet-natured joke at the expense of a type of podcast that takes itself too seriously. There are two seasons available on Hulu, and you’re going to love them both.

That said, we also recommend Murderville on Netflix. The comedy series stars Will Arnett as Terry Seattle, a washed-up hardboiled police detective who’s partnered with a different celebrity guest each week. The hook, though, is that none of the celebrity guests have a script. This makes for hilarious viewing as some guest stars — like former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, who is not just there so he won’t get fined — take their turns on camera seriously, while others, like Ken Jeong, are so tickled by the whole premise that they can barely keep it together.

Simply Marvelous

We all know what a juggernaut the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, but not every big hit for the comic book giant is on the silver screen. Ms. Marvel, streaming on Disney+, is a gem of a TV show that’s by turns funny and charming, while also teaching Iman Vellani’s character, Kamala Khan, about the importance of family (both blood relations and ‘found’ family members), and delivers a satisfactory comic-book story, as well.
